Solidarity with Greek protesters against the murder of Andreas Grigoropoulos
On Saturday night Greek police murdered 15 year old Andreas Grigoropoulos at what was meant to be an enjoyable party with his friends.
Witnesses saw police take aim and fire directly at the youth and drive away after committing the act. The result has been huge protests across Greece by thousands of young people joined by left-wing organisations. Now Greek trade unions are planning to strike over Andreas’ murder.
REVOLUTION expresses solidarity with Andreas’ family, friends and all Greek youth subjected to the repression of the brutal Greek police and declare our support for the protests which are still gathering momentum in the country.
States are increasing their use of violent measures all across Europe as movements to oppose the economic crisis, cuts and unemployment are building up a strong resistance to capitalism. The fight back too is rapidly becoming international from Berlin, to Barcelona, to Dublin to Rome.
If we are to transform these mobilisations into an international movement capable of challenging and overthrowing the capitalist system we will come into more and more conflict with the capitalists’ police forces and armies. We must organise self-defence to disarm them and then abolish them in favour of our own defence committees made up from workers and communities. We are in favour of spreading movements like the one in Greece all over Europe and the world to challenge the racist police. One solution – REVOLUTION!
