Campaigning work of Swedish section of REVOLUTION, January-March 2009

January 09

January was marked by the struggle for the Palestinians and against the Israeli occupational regime. The Israeli terror did not pass unseen. Demonstrations was arranged all over Sweden with thousands of people. With the slogan "Victory to the Intifada!" REVOLUTION argued for supporting the Palestinians who violently resisted the occupation but at the same time we critiziced the leadership of Hamas since their reactionary policies are in the way for worker's solidarity in the region and thereby a solution to the problem. We argued for the labour movement to put maximal pressure on the Israeli regime through boycott and strike action. During the whole month there were town meetings, demonstrations, propaganda work and work within the Gaza Solidarity network. At the end of the month we released a special Palestine issue of our magazine. Victory to the Intifada! Down with the US supported Israeli imperialism! For one state for everyone, no matter religion!

February 09

The struggle continued as usual in February with steady activism and meetings. In January there had been violent protests against the Israeli invasion of Gaza as well as a small uproar in a suburb to the city of Malmö, southern Sweden. All this had shown the true role of the racist Police pigs. A video from a Police van was exposed by mistake and in this video we can hear the cops speaking about what they want to do to the "fucking niggers" and "monkeys" as they call the young people taking to the streets. We argued for our right to defend ourselves and our protests from these pigs and called for organized self defence and that the left should not have illusions about the Police.

We also supported the wild strike of the Stockholm garbage men in the beginning of the month. In the middle of the month we released a new issue of our magazine, which among other texts contained an article about the founder of the Internaional Women's Day Clara Zetkin, who was a revolutionary socialist. In the end of the month it was time to start mobilizing for the International Women's Day March 8 as well as a demonstration in Malmö against a Davis Cup game between Sweden and the Israeli ockupational regime, March 7.

March 2009

Except for our regular work, REVOLUTION Sweden participated in two larger events. Firstly there was a Davis Cup tennis game between the Apartheid regime Israel and Sweden in Malmö. This was an opportunity to demonstrate against the Israeli foreign policy against Palestine. A campaign was formed in Malmö, called "Stoppa Matchen" which means "Stop the Game!". Unfortunately the reformist and stalinist leading forces of the campaign did not want to actually stop the game. It was only a slogan. In fact, they tried to convince the demonstrants that the police should be considered as friends. This was absurd because the Malmö police is infamous among working class youth for being the most racist pigs alive. Small groups within the campaign tried to make reality of the slogan but they did not have the necessary base of people and were therefore crushed by the police. The event triggered a hot debate within the Swedish left. See article and photos here: http://revolutionsweden.wordpress.com/2009/03/07/malmo-demonstranter-for...

March 8 it was time for the annual demonstration and celebration of the International Women's Day, once formed by revolutionary socialist Clara Zetkin. The demonstration worked out fine. Our section of the demonstration naturally focused on the rights of working class women. See article and photos here: http://revolutionsweden.wordpress.com/2009/03/09/rapport-8-mars-demonstr...
